"Green Build" General Information

What is green building? Green building is an attempt to design and build homes that are friendly to the environment and promote healthy living. There are many ways to build environmentally friendly and provide a quality indoor living space. Building green is complicated with many products claiming to be green. There are many shades of green, and what may be green in Florida may not be green in Alaska.

To complicate things even further, more and more products are claiming to be green. There are many excellent products that are designated green by their manufacturers. Unfortunately there are many inferior products that are also labeled as green by their manufacturers.

You will need to determine which products you want to include in your home. Check the manufacturer's warranty, also research how many years the company has been in business. Verify if they provide an Energy Star Rating and if they are backed by a National Certification Program. Many of the innovative green products are new on the market. It is great to be cutting edge, but realize that some of these products may not live up to their claims.
